520 | _a"The need for all teachers and students of ballet to study anatomy is recognised and encouraged by all who are responsible for the maintenance and improvement of ballet training. Hitherto there has been no book on the subject designed specially for dancers. Miss Sparger, a well-known physiotherapist, has a wide knowledge of dancing and of the special needs and problems of the dancer and her advice is constantly in demand by dancers and teachers and the principal dance organisations. The author points out that if ballet movements are performed correctly the correct muscles will be used; anatomy, however, is not merely the study of muscles. Miss Sparger goes deeper, in fact to the skeleton itself and her book provides a simple understanding of the bony structure of the body and the effects upon it of the movements which form the foundations of the dancing of ballet. It is a valuable contribution to books for the dancer, and should be studied by every teacher and serious student." -- Book Jacket | ||
